6.10 METER SECURITY LEVELS
The Atlas meter has a number of built in security levels that users in the meter can be assigned to. These security levels range from read-only to full write setup capability. Each level is numbers from 0 to 6 and each successive level can do all that the lower levels can do (except levels 4 and 5 which are swapped in terms of user access levels).
Every register besides setup can be read with any user level.
Write access is controlled by the security level of the register.
Access to a register is granted only if the user has that level access or higher. In addition to this the config jumper can lock out access to certain sections.
Meter Access Levels are described below.
Number Access Description
0 Read only Only allows values to be read
1 Read All / Limited Timeset Also allows the time to be set by a limited amount, as per the
shift limit setting.
2 Read All / Billing Reset Also allows a billing reset to be performed.
3 Read all / Clear Clear EFA alarms, surveys and other systems. Control user
programmable pulsing outputs. Unlimited timeset ability.
4 Read All / Setup Read / Write Allows the setup to be read, and allows limited setup change.
User memory Added in firmware version 1.28
5 Read All / Read Setup Allows the setup to be read, but not written.
6 Read All / Write All Allows the setup of the meter to be changed.

If a CAN message is received with CAN reason code 4, then this indicates that the current users security level is not high enough (generally seen when attempting a register write or setup write).
